Speak Up: Spotlighting Student Journalism
Jul 1st, 2019 by Issuu“Media literacy is essential training for all students in today’s media world. Years ago it was farming; today it is digital. All students need digital skills. It is how we communicate.” – Esther Wojcicki
Student Journalism
Student journalism is a critical outlet for young people to express their views, raise their voices and incite real change. Digital publishing has revolutionized the way that students can speak up through content creation, as school publications are no longer limited only to those within their communities These young publishers, journalists, artists and activists now have the ability to amplify their voices and projects across the world — and it’s time for us to listen up.
These up-and-comers are the change makers of our future, and it is up to us to support them. We’ve put together resources for both learning and creating, including our Digital Publishing Toolkit and Guide to Digital Publishing for Student Journalists, to get students on the fast track to publishing success.
“Today’s journalism is fully immersed in the digital age. Journalism students are learning to translate their reporting through so many digital mediums that they are being fully prepared to work within a digital landscape. They know the power of the digital world and they are harnessing it for the most noble of callings – to speak truth to power and create change.” – Melissa E. Falkowski, Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School
Of course, we have to give a shout out to the amazing student publishers that are already paving the way towards success in journalism. Take a look through our Speak Up: Student Publishing stacks to see the best in student journalism on Issuu.
