Maserati Confirms Plans for EVs, Hybrids, SUV

Fiat Chrysler Automobile NV’s Maserati unit has unveiled plans to upgrade facilities, add electrified models and introduce a second SUV/crossover.
All new models involved in the €5 billion ($5.5 billion) project will be produced in Italy, according to the company.
The new-car parade will begin next year with major updates to the Ghibli sport sedan that include Maserati’s first hybrid powertrain and the debut of Level 2 limited highway self-driving capability. The Ghibli is made in Turin.
The company also will introduce its first all-new model in five years: a sports car inspired by the Alfieri concept unveiled in 2014. The car, which wll be produced in Modena, is expected to offer conventional and electric powertrain options.
In 2021, Maserati plans to add a smaller SUV that will fit into its lineup below the $72,000 Levante crossover. The new vehicle will be produced at the company’s Cassino factory.
Maserati also is readying completely new versions of its GranTurismo and GranCabrio models with all-electric powertrains. FCA is investing €800 million ($875 million) to prepare its Turin complex to build the cars.
