Ford Adds Mild-Hybrid Variants in Europe

Starting next year, Ford Motor Co. will offer mild-hybrid versions of its Fiesta and Focus small cars in Europe.
The 48-volt architecture for the Fiesta and Focus will use a belt-driven integrated starter-generator in place of a standard alternator. In addition to engine stop-start capability and regenerative braking, the electrified system can reduce turbo lag and provide a temporary torque boost, according to the carmaker.
Ford plans to announce additional hybrid models in April.
