Suppliers Mahle GmbH and Faurecia SA say they will work together to develop interior thermal management technologies for next-generation vehicles.

Mahle will contribute its thermal and energy efficiency expertise. Interior specialist Faurecia will act as a systems integrator.

The companies say they have identified several potential areas of collaboration. These include air distribution, air-conditioning integration for electric vehicles and personalized thermal management units for shared autonomous vehicles.

The increasing number of full electric vehicle platforms will require improved thermal management systems that are smaller and use less power, the partners note. The advent of autonomous vehicles will require new thermal designs to address reconfigured seating positions.

Earlier this year Faurecia announced a similar agreement with ZF Friedrichshafen AG to co-develop interior and safety technologies for the so-called “cockpit of the future.”
