U.S. rental car giant Enterprise Holdings Inc. is the latest company to venture into the world of self-driving vehicles.
The company has agreed to handle maintenance for a 12-vehicle autonomous ride-hailing fleet operated by Voyage Auto Inc. The year-old startup, which is based in Santa Clara, Calif., is deploying automated shuttles that operate solely within in retirement communities in California and Florida.
Autonomous vehicles pose a potential threat to car rental companies. But Enterprise tells Bloomberg News it is taking a cautious approach to the technology, which it doubts will have a significant impact on personal transportation for at least a decade.
