Chinese Firm Licenses WiTricity Wireless Charging Tech
Boston-based WiTricity Corp. has agreed to license its wireless charging technology for electric vehicle batteries to China’s Zhejiang VIE Science & Technology Co. for local applications.

Boston-based WiTricity Corp. has agreed to license its wireless charging technology for electric vehicle batteries to China’s Zhejiang VIE Science & Technology Co.
Under terms of the deal, VIE be able to develop and sell wireless charging systems based on WiTricity’s patented technology to carmakers in China. One of VIE’s subsidiaries has been developing its own wireless technology for about four years.
The system developed by WiTricity, which was spun off from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2007, uses magnetic resonance technology. To help speed deployment, the company purchased Qualcomm Inc.’s Halo wireless charging business two months ago.
