CIRCLE OF LIFE AND LOVE

Amor Tomaquin, an overseas worker, returned to the Philippines from Abu Dhabi. While eight and a half months pregnant, Amor was alarmed to find herself testing positive for COVID-19. Fortunately, Amor was placed in the compassionate care of MPHHI’s St Elizabeth Hospital in General Santos City. On 6 August 2020, amidst her anxiety, she gave birth to a baby girl, Angela Faith.

Mother and baby were immediately isolated from each other to prevent infection. Amor spent 15 excruciating days apart from her newborn and her partner, Webner Carpentero, also waited anxiously, miles away in Abu Dhabi. Supported by her hospital team and a pure mother’s love, Amor came through the ordeal. On 21 August 2020, mother Amor and baby Angela were reunited and given a heartfelt send-off home by their hospital staff.

The hospital said, “Throughout our long history, St. Elizabeth Hospital has witnessed millions of stories that remind us every day why we do what we do, stories of sadness and loss, and of happiness and life. All of them strengthen our resolve to continue serving our community the best way we can. The incredible story of Amor and Angela is one of our greatest reminders that even with all the uncertainty currently surrounding us, the circle of life - and love – will go on and on.” <<
